exit through the gift shop.

mr. brainwash himself.
the elusive banksy.

i saw an amazing movie last night. exit through the gift shop is a documentary about street art and our relationship with art and artists on a whole. i thought it was mainly going to be about banksy, the street artist we all know and love (well, i love him anyways). while a lot of the movie did focus on him and other important players in the street art movement (mainly shepard fairey), the real story was really about thierry guetta, aka mr. brainwash, the man who obsessively filmed and documented the artists ans their work for years before decided to put on his own solo show. he was a bit of a manic character, hilarious and sad all at once. the movie really makes you think about what we consider art and we value certain artists over others. as banksy says, "mr. brainwash is a force of nature, he is a phenomenon. and i don't mean that in a good way." i couldn't agree more.

the three top pictures are of banksy's work.
