so good.

last night a friend of mine played some songs by mumford & sons for me. have you heard them? i absolutely fell in love! i've been drawn to music that has a bit more of a folksy/southern feel recently (hello, edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros)
and these guys definitely fit the bill.
i also really dig their style, that's always an added bonus.

iamhome.

iamhome is lovely design duo who makes the most charming small magnets, sculptures, and paintings. i have one of their tiny tree magnets, and i love looking over at it when i'm on the computer.
their work has a really unique, whimsical quality.

rachel comey st. vincent dress

one of my favorite designers named a dress after one of my favorite singers (okay, i don't know for sure if it was named after her or not, but i'm going to run with it.) i think it's a sign.
available at beklina.

totokaelo.

how did i miss this? totokaelo, a website i have visited often, has an actual outpost in seattle. why i didn't know this when i was in seattle alludes me. argh! such frustration! their things are so beautiful and i have often perused their website, wishing that their delightful wares could be mine. i am just going to tell myself that the actual store would not have had a great selection, otherwise i will never stop kicking myself.

not fair.

these rachel comey shoes are much, much too perfect.
i think my heart just skipped a beat.
available at maryam nassir zadeh.

pretty little things.

when we were seattle i saw the most beautiful jewelry by
i. ronni kappos. i love the handmade, slightly retro feel to it.
i'm kind of kicking myself for not picking up a piece when it was right in front of me. sigh.
available here, here, and here.

denim jacket.

currently keeping my eyes peeled for the perfect denim jacket.
a few musts: must be very fitted, a bit worn, and quite faded.
the first two are from j.crew, the last is from the gap.

sonnenzimmer.

nick butcher and nadine nakanishi make up the stellar chicago design duo sonnenzimmer. i first saw some of their paintings at lula cafe and was really struck by their simplicity. about a year later i was at the renegade craft fair with a friend of mine when their booth popped out at me. i hadn't seen their posters before and i totally fell in love with them. when i was lucky enough to chat with nadine for a few minutes, and she couldn't have been more lovely. aren't their prints so beautiful?
i love their organic, painterly quality.

f.o.x.

i've been on a ring kick lately. loving this fox head one from pyrrha. you can also get it with the fox head in bronze.
i think that might be the one for me.

a pit of passion.

last night i saw passion pit at the congress theater here in chicago. not only had it been a while since i had been to a concert, it had definitely been a long time since i had been to a concert where dancing was involved! it was so much fun to jump up and down and sing along. and a huge plus - i saw every single concert cliche you could hope for. the awkward couple making out, the older guy all by himself, the dude smoking up and then denying it to the security gaurds, the guy taking off his shirt to reveal a gnarly tattoo of a sun on his back. what more could you want, really?

exit through the gift shop.

mr. brainwash himself.
the elusive banksy.

i saw an amazing movie last night. exit through the gift shop is a documentary about street art and our relationship with art and artists on a whole. i thought it was mainly going to be about banksy, the street artist we all know and love (well, i love him anyways). while a lot of the movie did focus on him and other important players in the street art movement (mainly shepard fairey), the real story was really about thierry guetta, aka mr. brainwash, the man who obsessively filmed and documented the artists ans their work for years before decided to put on his own solo show. he was a bit of a manic character, hilarious and sad all at once. the movie really makes you think about what we consider art and we value certain artists over others. as banksy says, "mr. brainwash is a force of nature, he is a phenomenon. and i don't mean that in a good way." i couldn't agree more.

the three top pictures are of banksy's work.

ring a ding.

how cool is this vintage ring? the two hands open up to reveal a heart inside. it's so subtle and lovely.

available at doyle and doyle.

home hotel.

wowowzeewow. how beautiful is the home hotel in buenos aires?? i can't get over how beautifully designed the rooms are! it's walking distance from the city center,
yet it seems so sublimely peaceful.
i want to go to there.

my girl.

i can't help it, i have an absolute obsession with regina spektor. i just think she is so talented, beautiful, and unique. her songs make me happy and sad at the same time. her videos are sometimes a bit kooky, sometimes really sweet, and always really her. sigh.

fancy free.

stop looking at me, beautiful loeffler randall shoes and clothes.

sunnies.

salt caden.

kate spade serena.

alexander wang round.

ray ban cats 1000.

i just bought a great pair of inexpensive black sunglasses, but i can't stop thinking about a tortoise pair as well. i can justify that, right? different sunnies for different outfits! totally acceptable.
