first of all, you've got some good choices here! "East of Eden" is my all time favorite novel. also, "heartbreaking work" and "love in the time of cholera" probably make my top 10.
have you read "Heart of Darkness?" it's a novella so you can get through it in a week or so.
if you'd like something a bit more substantial, i highly recommend "The Town and the City" by Kerouac. i read it last summer. simply amazing.
I would actually recommend skipping _Love in the Time of Cholera_ and doing _100 Years of Solitude_ instead. I think I'm about the only one in the world who would make that recommendation, though, so take it with the grain of salt.
You should definitely add _The God of Small Things_ to your list - phenomenal.
